J.Pilates teaching on a Reformer

What is a REFORMER?

The Reformer - a moving bed with springs and and straps that provide resistance - is the main piece of equipment used in Pilates exercise. It was invented by Joseph Pilates during World War I as a piece of rehabilitation equipment for soldiers in camp. He then moved to the United States, opening up his studio in New York City where he trained athletes and dancers. The Reformer glides forward and backward on rollers and uses springs for resistance with a wide variety of exercises and positions such as lying, seated and standing.
